He was a senator and professor of Spanish Law. Native of Valladolid, he was the son of Nicolás López and Josefa Gómez. He married María del Carmen Rodríguez Cano, with whom he had four children. One of them, Nicolás, was also professor of Law.
He studied the baccalaureate in Philosophy and in Laws at the Universidad de Valladolid and graduated in Laws on the 6th of July, 1842, obtaining the doctorate in 1842.
He was professor of History and General Disciple of the Church and Particular of Spain of the Universidad de Valladolid in 1851. He was appointed dean of the Faculty in 1874 and rector of the Universidad de Valladolid in 1879. He was professor of Civil, Common and Foral Law of that university in 1883 and of Public and Private International Law in 1884. He retired in 1890.

Dean of the Colegio de Abogados de Valladolid in 1879. Judge of First Instance in 1854. He was appointed Substitute Judge of the Court of Valladolid in 1869. Councilor of the City Council of Valladolid in 1879. Chosen senator by the senate of the Universidad de Valladolid in 1891.
Senador y catedrático de Derecho español. Natural de Valladolid. Hijo de Nicolás López y Josefa Gómez. Se casó con María del Carmen Rodríguez Cano, con quien tuvo cuatro hijos. Uno de sus hijos, Nicolás, fue también catedrático de Derecho.
Estudió el bachillerato en Filosofía y en Leyes en la Universidad de Valladolid y se licenció en Leyes el 6 de julio de 1842, doctorándose en 1842.
Catedrático de Historia y Disciplina General de la Iglesia y Particular de España de la Universidad de Valladolid en 1851. En 1874 fue nombrado decano de la Facultad. Nombrado rector de la Universidad de Valladolid en 1879. Catedrático de Derecho Civil, Común y Foral de dicha universidad en 1883. Catedrático de Derecho Internacional Público y Privado en 1884. Se jubiló en 1890.

Decano del Colegio de Abogados de Valladolid en 1879. Juez de Primera Instancia en 1854. Nombrado Magistrado suplente de la Audiencia de Valladolid en 1869. Concejal del Ayuntamiento de Valladolid en 1879. Senador elegido por el claustro de la Universidad de Valladolid en 1891.
