In 1930, together with Carmen Caamaño, she was part of the founding nucleus of the Spanish University Federation and the Federal Union of Hispanic Students. In the first months of the Spanish Civil War, coinciding with the period in which her husband was Minister of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya, she created with Jordi Rubio i Balaguer the Servei de Biblioteques del Front.
After that, pregnant, she had to flee to Perpignan and hide there during part of her pregnancy and until her son Antoni Maria was born in 1937.
After Barcelona was under control of the National Army, she went into exile, first in France, where she received the news of her expulsion from the Faculty Corps by the Order of 22 July 1939, and then in Mexico, where she arrived from Casablanca to the port of Veracruz aboard the Nyassa in October 1942 with the rest of her family.
A JARE collaborator, in Mexico she served as secretary of the women's group Mariana Pineda, which in 1945, the year in which her son Josep Maria was born, merged with Mujeres Antifascistas and gave rise to the Unión de Mujeres Españolas (UME).
