Robert Baker was a British photography director, film director and producer.
He served as artilleryman in the British army during Second World War in North Africa, where he met his partner Monty Berman. He joined the cinema and photography unit of the army, becoming combat camerman in Europe. When the war finished, him and Berman founded the Tempean Films to film movies. Their first movie was "Date with a dream" (1948). At the beginning of his career, they made low cost movies until they slowly inverted more in movies he directed himself, like "13 East Street" (1952), "The hellfire club" (1961) "The treasure of Monte Cristo" (1961) or "The saint" (1962), which had a remake in 1997. His last period was dedicated to television.
He died the 30th September 2009 in England at the age of 92.

Sirvió como artillero en el ejército británico durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial en el norte de África donde conoció a su socio Monty Berman. Después se unió a la unidad de cine y fotografía del ejército, convirtiéndose en cámara de combate en Europa. Cuando terminó la guerra él y Berman fundaron Tempean Films para realizar películas. Su primera película fue Date with a Dream (1948). Al principio de su andadura realizaron películas de bajo coste hasta que poco a poco fueron invirtiendo cada vez más en las películas que el mismo dirigiría, como 13 East Street (1952), Los caballeros del infierno (1961), El secreto de Montecristo (1961) o El santo (1962) de la que haría un remake en 1997. Su última etapa estuvo dedicada al mundo de la televisión.
Murió el 30 de septiembre de 2009 en Inglaterra a los 92 años de edad.
