Ángela García Rives was a Spanish archivist and librarian. She belonged to a family of librarians and her father was the State Librarian. She studied Secondary Education at the Instituto General y Técnico de Cardenal Cisneros, as well as her brothers Moisés and Luis. After that, she studied Education at the Normal School of Madrid and she kept studying at the Colegio Nacional de Sordomudos y Ciegos (National College of the Deaf and the Blind). Some years later, she graduated in Philosophy and Literature from the Central University, obtaining the Extraordinary Prize of History specialization in 1912. Moreover, in 1917 she got a PhD with a thesis about King Ferdinand VI and Queen Barbara de Braganza. She was the first woman who joined the Corps of Archivists, Librarians, and Archeologists in 1913 and, later on, her brother Luis joined the Corps too. In 1912, she was assigned to the Public Library of Jovellanos, Gijón, and to the Archivo General Central of Alcalá de Henares (Central General Archive). Finally, in 1915, she was assigned to the National Library of Spain (BNE) and she worked there for 46 years, until her retirement in 1961. She started working at the BNE together with her colleague Manuel Machado, who was a journalist and a poet. After the Spanish Civil War, she was readmitted and in 1942 she was appointed Chief of the Cataloging Department. In 1962 she was given the ruling position in the Command of the Civil Order of Alfonso X, the Wise.

Hija de Moisés García Muñoz, natural de Pedroñeras (Cuenca), archivero-bibliotecario del Senado y de Rafaela Rives Muñoz, natural de Carabanchel Bajo (Madrid). Nieta de Moisés García Muñoz, jefe de Administración de Hacienda. Hermana de Moisés (1894), que llegó a ser abogado fiscal de la Audiencia Territorial de Madrid, y de Luis (1896), que también fue archivero-bibliotecario.
Estudió el Bachillerato en el Instituto Cardenal Cisneros al igual que sus hemanos. Se licenció en Filosofía y Letras por la Universidad Central de Madrid (con sobresaliente y premio extraordinario) y después se doctoró en Filosofía y Letras, Sección Historia, con una tesis sobre los reyes Fernando VI y Bárbara de Braganza. Además, estudió Magisterio en la Escuela Normal de Madrid y amplió estudios en el Colegio Nacional de Sordomudos y Ciegos.
Fue la primera mujer en ingresar en el Cuerpo de Archiveros, Bibliotecarios y Arqueólogos en el año 1913, después de que en 1910 se hubiera suprimido la imposibilidad de presentarse para el género femenino. Fue destinada a la Biblioteca Pública de Jovellanos en Gijón y después, al Archivo General Central de Alcalá de Henares en 1914. Finalmente, consiguió su destino en la Biblioteca Nacional de España (BNE) en 1915 y allí permanecerá durante 46 años hasta su jubilación en 1961. Llegó a la BNE junto a su colega y compañero de oposición, el periodista y poeta Manuel Machado.
En el inicio de la Guerra Civil seguía destinada como bibliotecaria en la Biblioteca Nacional de España. Tras el final de la contienda y ser depurada, fue readmitida sin sanción al servicio y en 1942 fue nombrada Jefa de la Sección de Catalogación de la BNE. En 1962 se le concedió la Encomienda de la Orden Civil de Alfonso X el Sabio.
