Hughes disfrutó de una exitosa carrera empresarial más allá de la ingeniería, la aviación y la cinematografía. La primera película en la que trabajó fue un desastre. He was an American business magnate, investor, record-setting pilot, engineer, film director, and philanthropist. Hughes enjoyed a highly successful business career beyond engineering, aviation, and filmmaking. The first film in which he worked on was a disaster. However, his next two films, Everybody's Acting (1926) and Two Arabian Knights (1927), were financial successes. After that he won the first Academy Award for Best Director of a comedy picture with his next film. And two of his other films titled The Racket (1928) and The Front Page (1931) were also nominated for Academy Awards. However, he did not have that much luck with his film Scarface (1932), which was censored due to its violence. Apart from his artistic business he also founded his own aircraft company, designed, built and flew his own aircraft. During the 1940s and 1950s, the Hughes Tool Company ventured into the film industry when it obtained partial ownership of the RKO companies and finally in 1954, Hughes had gained near-total control of RKO. He is best known for producing the following films among many others of his artistic career: The Outlaw (1943), Scarface: The Shame of the Nation (1932), His Kind of Woman (1951), Hell's Angels (1930)
