Legajo 22. 1795. Correspondencia del Barón de Carondelet, gobernador de Nueva Orleans, dirigida a las autoridades de varias plazas y fuertes que le estaban subordinadas. B, 28 cm., 600 letters. The correspondence covers the entire year 1795. The letters of each month are nearly all together, but otherwise the legajo is disorganized. The legajo contains:
(a) Original letters or signed drafts (probably the former) and drafts of Barón de Carondelet, governor of Luisiana, to his subordinates, as follows: Manuel Andry, Juan Barnó y Ferrusola, Elías Beauregard, Francisco Bouligny, Miguel Cantrelle, Carlos Luis Deblanc, Juan Delavillebeuvre, Ignacio Delinó, Guillermo Duparc, Martín Duralde, Juan Filhiol, Manuel Gayoso de Lemos, Carlos de Grand Pré, Manuel Lanzós, Juan Mentzinger, Pedro Olivier, José Javier de Pontalva, Tomás Portell, Francisco Rendón, Manuel Serrano, Zenón Trudeau, Diego de Vegas, Carlos de Vilemont, Enrique White, and James Wilkinson. (b) To Carondelet from Carlos de Grand Pré, Natchez; Zenón Trudeau, San Luis; and Enrique White, Panzacola (few). (c) Francisco Rendón, Nueva Orleans, to Manuel Gayoso de Lemos (few). Subjects treated: Relations with the cherokees, talapuches, alibamones, and chickasaws Ugulayacabé and Benjamín Fooy; gifts and supplies for indian nations; hostilities between creeks and chickasaws; relations of the americans and indians; the american establishment at Muscle Shoals; permissions granted for trading with the indians on the Missouri river; Panton and company; regulation of trade with americans; relations of the spaniards and the kentuckians; the projected invasion of East Florida by the french and americans; the project of the Marqués de Maison Rouge to bring in new settlers; difficulties of the inhabitants of Natchitoches and the syndic M. Bojoier (?) ; introduction of cotton-cleaning machinery; protestant preacher Curtis at Natchez; list of american families from Fort Pitt which arrived at Nuevo Madrid (aug.) ; and proclamation of Carondelet forbidding all assemblies of slaves (sept.15)
