Legajo 23. 1796, [1797]. Correspondencia con el Barón de Carondelet a las autoridades a sus órdenes. B, 22 cm., 550 letters. Most of the legajo is of 1796. The months come in order, with the documents disordered within each. A few of the letters have indices on the margins. The correspondence consists of originals and a few drafts directed by Governor Carondelet to Manuel Andry, Juan Barnó y Ferrusola, Elias Beauregard, Pedro Belly, Carlos Dehault Delassus, Juan Delavillebeuvre, Ignacio Delinó, Marcos de Villiers, Guillermo Duparc, Martin Duralde, Pedro Favrot, Jean Filhiol, Vizente Folch, Francisco de Paula Gelabert, Manuel Gayoso de Lemos, Carlos de Grand Pré, Diego de Lasaga, Pedro Olivier, Juan Maria Perchet, Tomás Portell, Antonio de San Maxent, Félix Trudeau, Zenón Trudeau, Diego de Vegas, Nicolás Verbois, Carlos de Vilemont, Pierre Voisin, and Enrique White. Also Carlos de Grand Pré, Natchez (jan., 1796), and Antonio de San Maxent, Nueva Orleans (feb.), to Carondelet. A few of the series are in french. Important items: 1790, trade in Missouri; Andres Todd; general Collot; Augusto Lachaise; treaty with United States-line of demarkation; question of evacuation of posts; copies of treaty of Basilea; proclamation of Carondelet forbidding the introduction of negroes or mulattoes into Luisiana (feb. 19) ; indian affairs; and military matters. The documents of 1797 are the drafts of certificates of Carondelet regarding the services of various military officials in Luisiana
