Legajo 42. 1793-1794. Correspondencia del Sr. Gayoso al Barón de Carondelet. B, 24 cm., 600 letters. The documents cover all the months of the two years. The letters to Carondelet are in order as given below, while the remaining series are not in order. The legajo comprises the correspondence of Manuel Gayoso de Lemos, governor of Natchez, directed to Elias Beauregard, Blas du Bouchet, Baron de Carondelet (1793, Sobre la Asamblea, nos. 12 and 13, dec. 5 and 6; reservadar nos. 6, 7, 7, 9, 9-12, 15; 1794, reservadas nos. 16-32, 37-40, 42-44, 49-55; 1793, ordinary nos, 226-232, 235, 236, 238-240, 244, 245, 251, 253-272, 274-293, 296-393; 1794, ordinary nos. 398, 402) ; Juan Delavillebeuvre, Ignacio Delinó, and Tomás Portell. There are also a few drafts of Carondelet to Gayoso de Lemos. Important items: 1793, reports on fortifications at Natchez and Nogales; projected invasion of Luisiana by the french from the United States; notices of boats arriving in Natchez from the United States; pledges of inhabitants of Natchez district to aid in war against France (oct. 18, Nogales) ; pledge of loyalty and promise of financial aid given by 168 inhabitants of Natchez ( aug. 3) ; certified copy of treaty of peace made at Nogales between Spain and the indian nations-chiclkasaws, creeks, talapuches, alibamones, cherokees, and choctaws; 1794, capture of Pedro Pisgignoux; and indian affairs at Natchez.
