Copias de reales despachos y cédulas de premios.
Legajo 570. 1773-1803, [1768-1772]. Reales despachos y cédulas. (Luisiana 83.) A, 30 cm., 800 documents. The legajo is composed of three classes of documents: (a) commissions granted to military officials (reales despachos); (b) rewards of service and retirement (cédulas de premio y retiro) ; and (c) reales cédulas, arranged in order as given. (a) The reales despachos cover the years 1768-1774, 1776-1786, 1788-1795, 1798, 1799, 1801, and 1802-1803. These are the copies of the commissions granted to the military officials of Luisiana, including nearly all the commandants of the various posts, at the time of their promotions. Some 362 of these documents are arranged in carpetas for the respective years extending from 1768 to 1793, and are numbered consecutively. The remainder are in carpetas for the several years. There is also a copy of the commission granted to Manuel de Salcedo as governor of Luisiana. (b) The reales cédulas de premio y retiro cover the years 1777-1779, 1782-1786, 1788-1795, 1798, 1801-1803. These are copies of the rewards and retirements granted to soldiers up to and including the rank of sergeant. The documents are arranged in twelve carpetas, for single years or groups of years. (c) The years in which the reales cédulas in this legajo were granted are as follows: 1779, 1780, 1782, 1785, 1787, 1790-1793, 1795, and 1798. The more important of these documents are the declaration of war against England (1779); donative for the war (1780); establishment of the Bank of San Carlos (1782); collection of the ecclesiastical subsidy (1790); and the division of the Ministry of Indias into two secretariats (1787). Important especially for the study of the career of the commandants in the province of Luisiana
