The letters cover the period from sept. 12, 1782, to may 12, 1784, with a few drafts of replies after this latter date. They are arranged in order of the Habana numeration within each group. Most of the legajo is correspondence of Rendón. The contents of the two groups are as follows
(a) Correspondencia con D. Francisco Rendón, comisionado en Filadelfia. (b) Id. con varios jefes e individuos de las colonias americanas. (a) Letters of Francisco Rendón to: 1782, sept. 12-1783, mar. 15, Juan Manuel de Cagigal, nos. 17, 18, 24-26, 37-37, and one unnumbered, renumbered in Habana (nos. 1-15); 1783, mar. 24-1784, may 12, Luis de Unzaga, nos. 1-6, 8-41, and 5 unnumbered, renumbered in Habana (nos. 16-60). Drafts of replies accompany many of the letters. (b) 1782-1784. Most of this group are in english, accompanied by spanish translations. Subjects treated in group (a): 1782, notices of the war in the colonies; notices from Europe; expenses of the commission of Rendón; movements of the french squadron; 1783, evacuation of Charleston (dec. 14, 1782); preliminaries of peace; cessation of hostilities; disbanding of the army; definitive treaty of peace; evacuation of Nueva York; retirement of Washington; deplorable condition of the United States treasury; weakness of the new government; founding of the society of Cincinnati; Virginia¿s desire for supremacy; 1784, political conditions of the United States; notices regarding Francisco de Miranda in Nueva York, expenses of his commission. In group (b): 1782, project to establish trade between Savannah and Cuba; 1783, recommendation of Oliver Pollock as agent of the United States in Cuba.
