The letters cover from jan. 10 to dec. 27, 1793, and are arranged in order. Each of the letters is in duplicate. The legajo consists of letters from Barón de Carondelet, governor of Luisiana, to Luis de las Casas, captain general of Cuba, nos. 262-363, 365-465 (series continued in legajos 1443, 1444, 1500; see legajo 1441). Some of the letters are accompanied by drafts of replies, and there are a number of other drafts of the captain general filed at the end of each month. There are also a few letters from Bartolomé Morales, San Agustín, to Luis de las Casas. Subjects treated: posts in Illinois to protect against the indians; english on the Missouri; journey of Pedro Vidal from Santa Fe to San Luis; death of McGillivray; treaty of the spaniards and the choctaws; hostilities of the talapuches on the Georgia frontier; disturbances among the talapuches. Many of the letters transmit petitions, military reports, and papers in criminal cases. The extra drafts transmit royal orders and despatches, a few of them dealing with the projected invasion of Luisiana by the french from the United States. Special item: 1792, oct. 7, San Luis.
