Legajo 1556. 1803, [1804]. Correspondencia con el Gobernador de las Floridas. (Someruelos 23; Capitanes Generales 508.) B, 26 cm., 429 documents. The letters cover the months of june-dec. 1803, with a very few for 1804. They are arranged in order by months, those of each governor being together within the months. Most of the letters of Salcedo are in duplicate. The legajo contains letters to Marqués de Someruelos, captain general of Habana, from: 1803, june 3-nov. 25. Enrique White, governor of Florida, nos. 655-663, 665-667, 669-674, 676, 678-689. Series continued in legajos 1557-1569; missing no. in legajo 1574; see legajos 1550-1555. 1803, june 4-1804, mar. 30. Manuel de Salcedo, governor of Luisiana, nos. 388-474, and 405 repeated, except (index only) nº 469. Missing nos. in legajos 1572, 1574; see legajos 1552-1555; cf. legajos 155, 2355. 1803, june 30, aug. 5. Vicente Folch, commandant of Panzacola, nos. 30-31. Series continued in legajos 1557-1570; see legajos 1550-1552, 1555. Many of the above letters are accompanied by drafts of replies, and there are also some other drafts of the captain general. At the end of the legajo there is a group of documents regarding Bowles, containing: Letters of Vicente Folch to: 1800, june 9, Marqués de Someruelos, nº 11; july 11, Pedro Olivier; 1801, mar. 14, july 26, Marqués de Casa Calvo, nos. 599, 646; 1801, sept. 21, oct. 27, Manuel de Salcedo, nos. 676, 690; 1802, mar. 11-sept. 7, Manuel de Salcedo, nos. 735, 788, 809, 828, and some instructions. There is also a long letter (date missing) of Folch, treating of the defense of Natchez and Nogales against the americans. Subjects treated by White: Plan of defense against the indians. Most of the letters transmit petitions and military reports. By Salcedo: Restablishment of the right of deposit in Nueva Orleans; shortage of funds; arrest of Bowles; confiscation of copies of the 'Social Contract' by Rousseau.
