Gaspar de Muro Colmenares was a Spanish historian, writer, archivist, and diplomat. He was son of the politician Joaquín José Muro Vidaurreta, Marquis Someruelos, and Carmen Colmenares Caracciolo. He had five siblings: Rafael (IV Marquis), Salvador (V Marquis), Francisca, Candelaria, and Lorenzo. Some positions he held were: Spanish Diplomatic attaché in Brussels, first secretary of the Spanish Embassy in Paris, in charge of business and Head of the Archive of the Ministry of State and Minister plenipotentiary. Among others, he received the following decorations:
- 1st Order Decoration of Nishar Hijar (in Arabic) (1865)
- Grand Officer of the Imperial Order of Guadalupe (Mexico) (26-7-1865).
- Royal order of Francis I (Rome) (in Italian) (3-4-1862).
- Commendation of 1st class of the order of Ludwing von Hessen (in German) (26-12-1859).
- Grand Chancellor of the Royal Order of San Ludovico (in Italian).
- Commander of the Legion of Honor (1851, 1863 and 1864).
- Grand Knight Cross of the Military Order of Our Lord Jesus Christ (30-12-1847).
- Command of the royal and distinguished order of Charles III (6-11-1857)
- Commander Cross of the Austrian imperial order of Franz Joseph (10-8-1880).
- Knight of 1st class of our imperial and royal order of Saint Stanislaus (26-9-1885 and 8-10-1885).
He is the author of a biography entitled " Vida de la princesa de Éboli", published in Madrid in 1877 and with a prologue by Antonio Cánovas del Castillo. He retired as an official of the Ministry of State in 1886.
