History:

Spanish professor of Palaeography and Diplomatics of the University of Valladolid and archivist.

He is from Valladolid, studied at its university, and obtained his PhD at the Central University of Madrid with his thesis on Sellos de placa de las cancillerías regias castellanas.

He was a State Archivist and joined the Cuerpo Facultativo de Archiveros, Bibliotecarios y Arqueólogos in 1930. His first destination was the General Archive of Simancas, where he took part in the description of documents of the State Section related to ecclesiastical topics among other tasks. He was professor of Palaeography and Diplomatics at the University of Valladolid from 1947 until his death, General Secretary of the University of Valladolid, and Director of the Provincial Historical Archive and the University Archive of Valladolid. In 1952 he was appointed inspector of the Archive of Zona Centro Norte and in 1961 chief of the Archives, Libraries, and Museums services of the University of Valladolid.

His studies focused on Castilian Palaeography and Diplomatics of the 15th and 16th centuries, above all during the reign of the Catholic Monarchs, however, he also published numerous historical and historic-artistic works of that epoch.

He married the architect María del Socorro González de Madrid, and they were the parents of Soledad Arribas González, archivist and director of the Archivo de la Real Chancillería de Valladolid. He died in his hometown at the age of 64.
