History:
During the Civil War (1936-1939), the Government of Catalonia faced the military coup d'état and was in charge of controlling the armed conflict. For this very purpose, it issued several decrees, such as the creation of citizen militias in Catalonia, as well as the establishment of the Department of Defence and the Army of Catalonia.
Timeline:
1931- 1934: Catalonia's Autonomous Government is restored during the II Republic, on the 2nd August 1931. Upon the failed declaration of the Catalonian State in October 1934, the Autonomous Government was suspended and restored in February 1936 on view of the triumph of the Popular Front.
1936-1939: Spanish Civil War.
1940-1977: Franco's victory leads to the government's dissolution. It is restored in the exile.
1977- : Restoration upon the arrival of the democracy on the 29th September, 1977.
