History:

Hovan, John George was born on the 19th of May 1916 in Callahan, Florida. He attended to Kirby Smith High School in Jacksonville, Florida. He worked as cigar maker, driver and shoe repair. He was member of the Communist Party. He sailed from the United States on the 21st of July 1937 aboard the "Berengaria" and arrived in Spain on the 4th of August 1937. He served with the Auto Park from Albacete and at the International Brigade Headquarters as driver. He returned to the United States on the 20th December 1938 aboard the "Ausonia". He went to the Second World War with United States Navy in the Construction Battalion, also named "Seabees" as Seaman, in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He died on the 27th of March 2014 in North Smithfield, Rhode Island.
