History:

Samuel Gonshak was born on September 22, 1911, in New York City. He worked as driver and a member of the Communist Party of the United States of America since 1931.

He sailed on February 20, 1937, aboard the “Ile de France” and arrived in Spain on March 15, 1937. He served as Commissar in the Auto Park of the 15th International Brigade with the rank of Sergeant.

He returned to the US on December 20, 1938, aboard the “Ausonia”. On May 23, 1942, he enlisted in the US Army as Warrant Officer with the rank of Private.

Gonshak died on May 9, 2000.
