Silverstein, Esther Miriam was born on the 3rd of August 1915 in Goshen County, Wyoming. She was a Jewish member of the American Medical Bureau. She graduated from Mitchell High School, and then attended the University of California where she studied nursing. She worked as nurse in the Marine Hospital in San Francisco. She sailed from the United States in May 1937 aboard the "Normandie" and arrived in Spain on the 19th of May 1937. She served with the Medical Services in the Sanitary Corps in the English Hospital of Huete and in the 35th International Division Sanitary Corps. She returned to the United States in September 1938 aboard the "Ile de France". She went to the Second World War with the United States Army Nurse Corps in Utica, New York, and Dayton, Ohio, as 2nd Lieutenant. She died on the 22nd of April 1997.
