He was a professor of General History of Spanish Law of the Universidad de Barcelona, who was outstanding in the field of law, being dean of the Ilustre Colegio de Abogados de Barcelona during the years 1903-1911. Son of the professor, mayor of Barcelona and minister of Overseas, Francisco Permanyer Tuyet and of Rosa Ayats. He obtained his doctorate at the Universidad de Barcelona in 1867.

Appointed professor of the faculty of law of the same University in 1878. He was appointed professor of General History of Spanish Law in 1884.

Other activities:

President of the Academia de Jurisprudencia y Legislación de Barcelona.

He appears among the authors of the “Memorial en defensa de los intereses morales y materiales de Cataluña” presented to Alfonso XII in 1885.

Founder of the unió Catalanista.

President of the Ateneo barcelonés between 1897 and 1898.

Collaborator of the journal La Renaixença.
