Daughter of the writer Max Aub and Perpetua Barjau Martín. After the Spanish Civil War, her father left the country, and she, her mother and her sister Carmen followed him years later, in 1946, to Cuba. They later settled in Mexico.

In 1945, she married the writer Federico Álvarez Arregui, son of Spanish exiled people. They had two children: Federico David y Teresa. Between 1959 and 1961, they were members of the "Movimiento Español" (ME/59), that wanted to make sense of the condition of the exile.

During the eighties, she worked in the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico (INAH) in the proyect "Historia Oral, Refugiados Españoles en México. Archivo de la Palabra", carried out with interviews to Spanish refugees in Mexico after the Spanish Civil War. This project was made in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain.

She was President of the Max Aub Foundation with headquarters in Segorbe (Castellón) until 2012, when her daughter Teresa Álvarez Aub replaced her.
