Marc Allégret was a Swiss and of French origin film director, scriptwriter, photographer and actor.
He was the elder brother of moviemaker Yves Allérget. He had a relationship when he was young with French writer André Gide, which ended up after their trip to Congo in 1972. After making the documentary "Voyage au Congo", he chose to work in the cinema industry. After studying and working as director assistant, he directed "Mam'zelle Nitouche" (1931), his first long film. The next year, he achieved a great recognition for "Fanny" (1932). Along his career, he wrote and directed more than fifty movies. "Blanche Fury" (1948), "Mademoiselle Striptease" (1956) or "Sunday encounter" (1958). He was married with Nadine Vogel. Besides, he discovered many exceptional actors like Michèle Morgan, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Raimu, Gérard Philipe, Danièle Delorme, Louis Jourdan and Roger Vadim, who was his director assistant.
