History:

He was a German writer. He belonged to an Ottonian noble family and he was the son of Carl Johann Vieth von Golßenau (1856-1938), Maths professor, and Bertha Raspe (1867-1949).

Attacked by the Nazis, he had to give up his noble title and he started to use Ludwig Renn as his name. Plus, he joined the Communist Party. In July 1936, he went to Spain in order to join the International Brigades and fight for the Republican faction during the Spanish Civil War. He was assigned to the support column Thälmann and from November 1936 to the ¿Estado Mayor" of the XI International Brigade where he stood out fot the participation in the Battle of Guadalajara. Between 1937 and 1938, he was in the ¿Estado Mayor¿ of the International Division n.35. After the defeat of the Republicans, he went to Mexico traveling through the UK and the US and he worked as the president of the movement ¿Freies Deutschland" promoting the Esperanto. He went back home in 1947 and he settled down in the old German Democratic Republic.
