Frank Capra was an American of Italian origin scriptwriter, film director and producer. When Capra was six years old, his pernts emigrated to Los Angeles. He studied Chemical Ingeneering in the California Institute of Technology. He began his cinema career as comedies director and scriptwriter for Columbia Pictures. His movies dealt with spiritual subjects but without leaving the comedies. He was a happy endings artist and one of the greatest film directors of the golden age of Hollywood. He revieved many nominations and awards like, for example, Oscar for Best Director and for Best Picture for "It Happened One Night" (1934) and "You Can't Take It With You"(1938), among others. He spent a long time without directing comedies in order to work with war correspondants. Later on, he filmed "Arsenic and Old Lace" (1944), which had a great success. Two years later, in 1946, he released the movie "It's a Wonderful Life", which had several nominations to the Oscars, including Best Director and Best Cinematography. This movie became a Christmas classic in television and is still screened during the holidays nowadays.
Among his numerous movies, the most outstanding and importanta ones are: "It Happened One Night" (1934), "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town" (1936), "You Can't Take It With You" (1938) and "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946).
