Blánquez Fraile, Agustín (1883-1965)

Spanish Latin and classic Greek scholar, historian, archaeologist, translator, archivist and librarian.
He studied in Madrid's Central University, where he obtained his doctorate in Philosophy and Letters with extraordinary prize, and obtained a degree in Law. In 1911, he did the exam for the Cuerpo Facultativo de Archiveros, Bibliotecarios y Arqueólogos, and was destined as an archivist of the Delegación de Hacienda, and boss of the library of the provincial Instituto of Palancia, capacity in which he found several incunabula.
At the beginning of the Civil War, he was destined in the Archivo del Reino de Valencia. Later on, in Barcelona, he was named Jefe de Archiveros, Bibliotecas y Museos, and Jefe de los Servicios de Recuperación in Gerona. In 1943, he was assigned director of the Biblioteca Universitaria of Barcelona. He was teacher of the Escuela de Bibliotecarias of Barcelona's University, where he taught Latin and literature, until 1962. He was teacher and honorary professor of Barcelona's Philosophy and Letters University. He was also archivist of the Audiencia Territorial de Barcelona, and treasurer of the Asociación de Archiveros, Bibliotecarios y Arqueólogos of Spain. In 1946, he published his most known work: "Diccionario latino-español".
