Miguel Gómez del Campillo was a Spanish archivist and librarian. He spent his first years in Tarragona. He entered the Diplomatic School and got a PhD in Philosophy and Letters. In 1899 he passed public examination and got a position in the Corps of Archivists, Librarians, and Archaeologists. He was assigned to the Archivo Histórico Nacional (AHN, National Historical Archive), of which he would be secretary between 1908 and 1916 and Director since 1930. Later, he was in charge of the personal library of the Kings of Spain until the end of the monarchy. By summer of 1936 he joined the coup perpetrators, so he was dismissed from his position as AHN Director. During the Spanish Civil War, he performed various tasks in institutions held by the rebel forces. He was reinstated in his position after the fall of Madrid. After his retirement in 1945, he was appointed member of the Royal Academy of History and AHN Honorary Director.
