Morterero Simón, Conrado (1915-1982)

Spanish archivist and historian. He was the son of Conrado Morterero and Felipe, head of the Archivo General del Ministerio de Hacienda, and the grandnephew of María Felipe Pajares.
He graduated in Law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. In 1933, he entered the Cuerpo de Auxiliares de Archiveros, Bibliotecarios y Arqueólogos. He became a member of the Corps of Specialist Archivists, Librarians and Archaeologists in 1942.
Between 1967 and 1982, he served as director of the Archivo del Palacio Real de Madrid and was also the legal librarian of the Colegio Notarial de Madrid from 1943 to 1982. He was a full member of the Instituto Salazar y Castro, a member of the board of directors of the Instituto Internacional de Genealogía y Heráldica, and a professor of Paleography at the Escuela de Genealogía, Heráldica y Nobiliaria as well as of Graphotechnics.
He authored several monographs on archival science, heraldry, and history and received received among other awards the "Rietstap" (1978) from the International Institute of Genealogy and Heraldry. He was a member of the Asociación de Archiveros, Bibliotecarios, Museólogos y Documentalistas (ANABAD) and was awarded the Cruz de San Raimundo de Peñafort. He passed away in 1982.
