History:

Spanish politician. She graduated in Political Sciences from the Complutensey University of Madrid. In 1974 she joined PSOE, participating in the first address about women in the Congress of PSOE in 1975. In 1976, she was involved in the creation of Women Liberation Front. In the first democratic elections, Bustelo was elected deputy of the Socialis Parliamentatian Group of PSOE for Madrid, in the Constituent Legislature (1983-1988). From 1985 to 1996, she participated in the Conference about the Elimination of all kind of Discriminations against Women at the United Nations. From 1983, she worked as the under-secretary at the Ministry of Social Affairs until 1990, when she resigned from the post. Bustelo was involved in the defense of women' rights, the feminist movement and the constitutional equality. Thanks to her, the Law on Divorce was passed on 22nd June 1981.
