Castro García, Virtudes (1938-)

Spanish politician and teacher of Spanish education. Daughter of Virtudes García Barranco and Antonio Castro Moreno, a socialist teacher and councilman in the Second Republic and victim of a reprisal at the beginning of Francoism. She was trained in his hometown in Adra (Almería) until finishing high school, and later she graduated in Teaching. Since 1976 she joined Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT/General Union of Workers) and the Spanish Socialist Worker's Party (Partido Socialista Obrero Español/PSOE). In the first democratic elections she was elected deputy for Almeria by the Socialist Parliamentary Group during the Constituent Parliamentary term (1977‑1979). She was appointed senator by election for Almería in the First Parliamentary term (1979‑1982). In 1985 she joined the Partido de Acción Socialista (PASOC/Socialist Action Party). From 1987 to 1991 she was councilor of the Almería Town Council. In 1990 he returned to PSOE.
