History:

Spanish professor and politician. His brother is Jesús Mari Agirre Kerexeta, Mayor of Elorrio (Bizkaia). Lecturer at the University of Deusto, where he graduated in Geography and History, and obtained a PhD in Philosophy and Letters. Agirre has published several treatises about the geography of the Basque Country, among other works. In 1977, he co-founded the "Andrés de Urdaneta" Geographic Institute of the Basque Country. Agirre also inspired the creation of the Eusko Lurra Foundation. He joined Bizkai Buru Batzar in 1977, which was the Biscay Executive Board of the Partido Nacionalista Vasco or PNV (Basque Nationalist Party). The same year he was elected representative of Bizkaia in the general elections during the Constituent Legislature (1977-1979). Agirre was re-elected in the 1979 and October 1982 elections.
