History:

Spanish art historian, professor and politician. He graduated in Philosophy and Letters from the University of Cantabria. Álava also earned a PhD thanks to a thesis about the Gothic Architecture in Cantabria. He was elected deputy for Cantabria in the Constituent Legislature (1977-1979), so he settled in the Parliamentary Group of Unión de Centro Democrático (Democratic Centre Union). From 1979, he had been working in teaching and researching, being a full professor at the University of Cantabria. Álava died on 4th August 2010 in Santander.
