History:

Spanish economist and industrial engineer. Married. His father was Cesáreo Alierta, Mayor of Zaragoza in the 60's and ex-president of the football team Real Zaragoza, and his brother is the entrepreneur César Alierta. Alierta was a professor of Political Economics and Public Finances at the University of Zaragoza, from 1972 to 1980. Between 1977 and 1983, he was also a member of UCD for Zaragoza. Alierta was also a Member of Parliament for Alianza Popular in Aragón from 1983 to 1987. Moreover, he was Senator of PDP from 1986 to 1989, and of PP from 1989 to 2000 for Zaragoza. Alierta was a member of the People's Democratic Party Political Council, the Aragonese Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country, the Spanish Graduated in Economics Association, the School of Economists and Industry Engineers, the American Economic Association, the Finance Association, and the Royal Economics Society, among others.
