History:

Spanish economist and politician. He got married with Marita Frau Bernat, with whom he had three children. Alonso studied High School courses at the San Francisco de Palma de Mallorca School (Balearic Islands). He moved to Madrid in 1963, where he graduated in Economics Sciences from the University Complutense in 1968. During his university period, specifically since 1965, he belonged to the SDEUM (University Students Democratic Syndicate of Madrid). He came back to Palma de Mallorca in 1969, when he started to work at the "Frausa" footwear company, being the president between 1970 and 1975. A year later, Alonso was the consultant of the Rodríguez Gancedo y Rubio Society. In 1977 he graduated in History from the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of Palma de Mallorca. He also joined PSOE and UGT on October 1974, being first secretary and general secretary of the Balearic Socialist Federation from 1974 to 1979. In 1978 and 1979, Alonso was Minister of Spatial Planning, Public Works and Urban Planning of the pre-autonomous government of the Balearic Islands. He was also elected deputy for Baleares in the very first democratic general elections, on June 1977. Alonso again was elected deputy on March 1979, but quitted his seat on November 1980.

During his career at the Congress, he was the representative of PSOE at the Commission of Trade (1977-1987), the president at the Commission of Economics at the Senate (1988-1989), and vice-president at the Commission of Ibero-American Affairs (1986-1989). Furthermore, during his career within PSOE, he was elected the secretary of the Government Finances of the Federal Executive Commission on September 1979 until 1988. Later on, he was senator for Mallorca (1986-1989) and again, deputy for Balearic Islands (1989-1993).
