Spanish lawyer and politician. Deputy in the Constituent Legislature (1977-1979). Arana was a candidate for attorney lawyer at Courts in 1971 by family representation. Accused by the Court of Public Order during his election campaign, he assumed his own defence, so he finally was absolved. Arana stood for the 1973 municipal elections, and co-founded the regional group Bloc Populat de les Terres de Lleida along with Jaume Auqué, Manuel Lladonosa and Vicenç Ximenis, among others. After the Monserrat Congress, the Bloc Popular came together with large sections of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya or ERC (Catalonian Republic Left-Wing), and others with the Partit Socialista de Catalunya-Reagrupament or PSC-R (Catalonian Socialist Party), of which Arana was the permanent secretary. In the 1977 elections, PSC-R came together with Esquerra Democràtica de Catalunya and Convergència Democrática de Catalunya, among others, creating finally the Pacte Democràtic per Catalunya (Democratic Deal for Catalonia), which Jordi Pujol headed. Arana got a deputy seat for Lleida, joining the Mixed Parliamentary Group. In 1978, when PSC-R became part of PSC, Arana joined ERC. He participated in the commission in charge of the drift of the Catalonian Autonomous Statute proposal in 1979, as a representative of ERC. In the 1979 general elections, he stood for ERC for Lleida, without getting a seat, so he quitted politics.
Finally, Arana died in Toulouse (France), and is buried in Andorra.
