Blanco García, Jaime (1944-)

Spanish doctor and politician. Deputy in the Constituent Legislature. Blanco graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University Hispalense of Sevilla, concretely he was an intensive care expert. He was the Section Head of Intensive Medicine at the University Hospital "Marqués de Valdecilla". Blanco was a member of the Federal Committee of PSOE and secretary-general of PSC-PSOE between 1977 and 2000. He headed the Government of Cantabria between 1990 and 1991 after the vote of censure in which Juan Hormaechea was removed. In the 1977 general elections, Blanco was elected deputy for Santander, joining the Socialist Parliamentarian Group. He joined it again in the II Legislature for Cantabria. In July 1987, during the III Legislature, he resigned from his position at the Congress so José Ramón Lago Freire replaced him. Blanco balanced his positions for Cantabria at the Congress of the Deputies and the Senate in the following years until 2011. Moreover, between 1987 and 1990 Blanco worked as a deputy at the Parliament of Cantabria.
