Gómez Angulo, Juan Antonio (1953-)

Spanish lawyer and politician. PhD in Mining Engineering from the Higher Technical School of Mining Engineers of Madrid and Degree in Law from the Complutense University. Director of the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (1968‑1971) and President of the National Commission of Geology (1969-1975).
In the democracy, Gómez Angulo was Deputy for Almeria (Unión de Centro Democrático/UCD) in the Constituent Parliamentary term and he was also deputy in the first parliamentary term of the Assembly of Madrid (1983), as well as councillor for nine years with José María Álvarez del Manzano, as Councilman of Culture and Deputy mayor. In 2000 he became Secretary of State for Sports during the first government of José María Aznar.
He was married to María José Amorós Manada, who died suddenly during her trip to Bulgaria as head of cabinet of the Minister for Justice, Margarita Mariscal de Gante.
He was awarded with the Gran Cruz de la Real Orden de Isabel la Católica in 2004 and with the Medalla de Oro de la Real Orden del Mérito Deportivo (Gold Medal of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit), granted by the Consejo Superior de Deportes (2006).
At the beginning of 2013 he held the position of delegate of Mobility and Environment of the City of Madrid during the government of Ana Botella.
