History:

Spanish politician and doctor in Law. As commander of the Marine Corps he holds the Medal of Maritime Merit and the Cross of San Raimundo de Peñafort. Married to Dolores Betancor Marrero, with whom he had two children, Lucía and Juan Manuel.

At the beginning of the transition he was a member of Unión de Centro Democrático (UCD/Union of Democratic Centre) and later hejoined the Partido Democráta Popular (Popular Democrat Party), created by Óscar Alzaga. During the Constituent Assembly he was UCD deputy for Las Palmas. He was elected Senator in the Second Parliamentary term (1983‑1986).
