History:

Spanish professor and politician. During the Spanish Civil War he fought in the Republican army, on the fronts of Teruel and Ebro. When Catalonia fell, he was taken prisoner and placed in a concentration camp in León, where he left to serve as a legionary in Melilla for three years. Later, he graduated in Classical Philology and got a PhD in Letters and Romanesque Philosophy from the University of Barcelona in 1968. During 1947‑1948 he devoted himself to teaching in Madrid, but he moved to Holland in order to work at the Spectrum publishing house.

In 1953 he returned to Spain, dedicating himself to translation and collaborating in periodical publications. Hired by the Spanish service of the BBC, he moved to London, where he lived from 1955 to 1960. In that city he married with Josefina Vidal Morera in 1956. From 1960 to 1977 they lived in Holland, where they joined the Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT/General Union of Workers) and the Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE/Spanish Socialist Worker's Party) in 1963. In 1972 he was a representative at the XII Congress of the PSOE in exile by the Section of Amsterdam. He was a professor at the University of Amsterdam, where he taught Catalan Language and Literature, as well as of Spanish Language and Literature.

He returned to Spain in 1977 as Secretary‑General of the UGT Federation of Teaching Workers of Catalonia and Ministre for Culture of the Executive Committee of the Partido Socialista de Cataluña (PSC‑PSO/Socialist Party of Catalonia). He was elected deputy for Lérida in the 1977 general elections and later in 1980, as an autonomous deputy for Barcelona to the Parliament of Catalonia. He was reelected in the successive elections of 1984, 1988 and 1992.

Felip Lorda actively participated in the debates on the project of Ley de Ordenación General del Sistema Educativo (LOGSE).
