History:
Spanish farmer and politician. At the end of Francoism he was the leader of the JARC (Juventut Agraria i Rural catholic), as well as founding member and leader of the Unió de Pagesos de Catalunya and activist of the Front Nacional (National Front) of Catalonia since 1973. He was arrested on several occasions during the dictatorship. He joined the Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE/Spanish Socialist Workers Party) in 1976. Moreover, Josep Pau i Pernau was deputy of the Partido Demócrata Cristiano (PDC/Christian Democratic Party) for Lérida in the Constituent Parliament (1977‑1979) and of PSC-PSOE, same constituency, in the parliamentary terms I to V (1979‑1996). He was also mayor of Alberca (1979‑1982).
