History:

Spanish professor and politician. He is a doctor in Philosophy and Letters, specialising in Contemporary History. He was dedicated to teaching until his entrance into politics.

In 1976, Pedro Pegenaute Garde joined the Partido Liberal (Liberal Party) and he belonged to its Executive Committee. This party, together with the Social Democratic of Navarre, constituted the two pillars on which the Unión de Centro Democrático (UCD/Centre of Democratic Union) of Navarre in the face of the 1977 general elections. He was elected UCD Deputy for Navarra in the Constituent Parliament (1977‑1979), repeating seat in the I parliamentary term (1979-1982). In December 1979, due to his discrepancy with the Guernica Statute regarding the possible incorporation of Navarra to Euskadi, he resigned as deputy and he left UCD. He also was adviser to the UCD leader José Pedro Pérez Llorca when he held the portfolios of the Presidency, Public Administrations and Foreign Affairs. Moreover, he was a member of the regional parliament of AP‑PDP‑UL in Navarra (1983‑1987). In 1981 he joined the Convergencia Navarra, a political party with which he standed for the 1982 general elections, in a coalition with Alianza Popular (AP/People's Alliance), the Partido Demócrata Progresista (Democratic Progressive Party), Unión Liberal (Liberal Union) and the Unión del Pueblo Navarro (Union of the Navarrese People).

Between 1983 and 1987 Pegenaute Garde was a parliamentary member and president of the Education and Culture Committee of the Parliament of Navarra. In 1985 he left Coalición Popular (People's Coalition) and he founded the Partido Moderado Centrista de Navarra (Moderate Centrist Party of Navarre), of which he was Secretary‑General. It was dissolved the following year. In 1991 he joined Unión del Pueblo Navarro, from which he occupied various positions in the Education and Culture Department of the Navarre Government.
