Ramos Camarero, Juan (1944-2011)
Illora (Granada, España) 1943-07-06 - Barcelona (España) 2011-10-14
Spanish politician and industrial Master. He was an electrician assembler and he worked as industrial metallurgist master for years in the company SIEMENS. Communist militant, Juan Ramos Camarero was leader of Comisiones Obreras (CCOO/Workers' Commissions) in Baix Llobregat, as well as a member of the Central Committee of the Partido Socialista Unificado de Cataluña (PSUC/Unified Socialist Party of Catalonia) and of the Secretariat of the Confederación Sindical de la Comisión Obrera Nacional de Cataluña (CONC/Trade Union Confederation of the National Workers' Commission of Catalonia). He was PSUC deputy in the Constituent Assembly (1977‑1979) and in the I (1979-1982) parliamentary term. There, he was discharged on 31 January 1980 and he was replaced by Antonio Montserrat Solé in order to be able to stand for regional elections in Catalonia. He sat in the autonomous parliament until 1984. In December 1981 he was expelled from the PSUC by the Central Committee along with eleven other members, including the former president, Pere Ardiaca and Juan Muñiz. They were members, like Ramos himself, of the national executive who were accused of forming a parallel direction of pro‑Soviet tendency. In 1982 he and other splinters, including Ardiaca, founded the Partido de los Comunistas de Cataluña (PCC/Communist Party of Catalonia). Later he was Secretary‑General of Partido Comunista de los Pueblos de España (PCPE/Communist Party of the Peoples of Spain), which in 1988 led the opposite sector to continue in Izquierda Unida (IU/United Left). This caused the rupture between the PCPE and the PCC. In 2002 he was relieved of his position as PCPE Secretary‑General by Carmelo Suárez. He died in October 2011.
