History:

She was a Norwegian antifascist Resistant. Committed within the anti-fascist struggle, she began, in 1942, to protect the Jewish population. She organized a clandestine network protecting their escape to neutral Sweden. She and her husband, Dr. Ragnar Børsu, were arrested in April 1943. Her husband was released, but she was transferred to the Grini concentration camp, near Oslo. In 1944 she was sent to Ravensbrück, a female camp. Before the arrival of the Red Army in April 1945, the camp management decided to move part of the prisoners to the rear, free the German women and deliver about 500 inmates to the Swedish Red Cross, among which was Lise Børsum. In 1946 Børsum wrote her experience in "Prisoner in Ravensbrück" (Fange i Ravensbrüc), one of the most important books about the Holocaust. After the war she had a huge commitment to national and international organizations to help the resisters and deportees: "Nasjonalhjelpen", "Nasjonalhjelpens Fond for krigens" or the International Commission against the Concentrative Regime. She participated in the court that organized the Commission to find out if the Soviet Gulags shared the same practices as the Nazi camps. In 1952 she was part of the delegation of this international commission that inspected the prisons of the Franco dictatorship. She was a regular contributor to the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet.
