He completed his high school studies at the Instituto del Cardenal Cisneros in Madrid.
He became a civil servant in the Corps of Specialist Archivists, Librarians and Archaeologists by public examination on March 24, 1907.
At the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, he was assigned to the Archivo General del Ministerio de Justicia (Madrid). He requested to rejoin the Corps, and the resolution was his readmission with a penalty of disqualification from positions of command or trust for one year.
