Miembro independiente del parlamento británico (MP) y activista defensora de los derechos de las mujeres. Pertenecía a la familia Rathbone de Liverpool. Durante la guerra civil española, fue vicepresidenta del "National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief" creado para ayudar al gobierno de la II República.
