Spanish physician, canon and liberal politician. Son of Sebastián Barlles Coll and Francisca Torres-Amat. He did his baccalaureate in the Universidad de Cervera. He moved to Valencia and studied a degree in Medicine. He was a member of the Liberal Party. In 1822, he collaborated in the uprising against Ferdinand VII. As a consequence, on 3 November 1823, he was captured along with marshal Torrijos and had to migrate to England. In 1827, he got his PhD in Edinburgh (Scotland) with the thesis "Dissertatio medica inaugurales quaedam de mania complectens". He worked as physician in the Westminster Hospital of London.
In 1833, he came back to Spain, just after the amnesty, and settled in Valencia. Then, he married the aristocrat Emilia Bertrán de Lis Pons and had nine children: Amalía, Enriqueta, Roberto, Mariano, Catalina, Adolfo, Luisa, Concepción and Fe Batllés Bertrán de Lis. He was professor, Rector and Dean in the Universidad Literaria de Valencia. In 1840, he was granted with the Civil Order of Isabella II of Spain. Finally, he was government representative for Valencia (1854-1858).
