History:

Spanish politician and soldier. 4th Marquis of Amarillas and 1st Duke of Ahumada. Spanish Lieutenant and Minister of War.

Son of Jerónimo Girón de Montezuma, Marquis of Amarillas and Viceroy of Navarra, and Isabel las Casas Aragorri. He also was Castaños' nephew, and Field Marshals José Ezpeleta and Pascual Enrile's brother-in-law. His uncles were Simón de las Casas, ambassador of Venice during the French Revolution, and Pedro Gómez Ibranavarro, councillor of Castile; both married to the sisters of Isabel de las Casas. He was a counter-revolutionary figure. He started his military career as Colonel, Brigadier and further on he becomes Chief of the Fifth Army.

In 1822 he was persecuted by Constitutionalists and discharged from the army, having to flee to Gibraltar, from where, at the end of the Trienio Liberal (Liberal Triennium), he was sent to Seville as a barracks officer. In 1832 he was appointed Captain General of Granada and later on of Andalucía, becoming a member of the State's Councillor after Ferdinand's VII death and during Isabella's II minory. On 26 June 1835 he was given the title of Duke of Ahumada with Grandeeship of Spain.

He married Concepción de Ezpeleta y Enrile, daughter of José Ezpelta de Galdeano, and they were parents to Francisco Javier Girón Ezpeleta, General and founder of the Guardía Civil.
