History:

Spanish politician and law specialist. He studied Law in Salamanca, where he began to work and where he joined to the Progressive Party, being this the reason why he was persecuted. He was elected chairman of the Junta de Defensa (Defence Board) in the Peninsular War, corregidor and later, judge of his party. He was a great defender and diffuser of the Constitution of 1812; he was elected judge in Cortes, politician chief of Extremadura, president of Sociedad Patriótica de Cáceres (Patriotic Society of Cáceres), and founder and publisher of the newspaper La Asociación de Cáceres. He married to Juana Garrido, and it is believed that they did not have any children. In 1814, he joined into the bar association. In 1820, he was political chief of Toledo and Extremadura. He signed in favour of the dismissal of Ferdinand VII, so when the Hundred Thousand Sons of Saint Louis came to Spain, he had to flee. He lived in Malta and Marseille. When Ferdinand VII died, he returned to Spain and held the position of minister of Grace and Justice in different governments, making important decisions about the organization and the judicial administration. He was magistrate and minister in property of the Supreme Court. In 1845, he was the president of a Junta Progresista Revolucionaria against Narváez's Government, but they thought that he was a conspirer, so he was exiled in Cuenca, not returning until 1847, when he was designated senator for life.
