Spanish politician with a tendency for liberalism, law professor and jurist. He was Law Professor in the University of Valencia and Minister of Grace and Justice during the Trienio Liberal (Liberal Triennium) and later, during Maria Cristina's regency. In 1821, he took part in writing the Civil Code, and in 1834, in the creation of the Royal Statute. He was also President of the Supreme Court (1843-1850). Belonging to the Junta of Valencia during the Peninsular War, he was sent to prison in the Castle of Peñiscola, and later to the Castle of Bellver, but he was set free in 1811 thanks to the intervention of the Cortes of Cádiz.
Once Ferdinand VII had passed away, he went back to his position as Secretary of Justice in the cabinet of his friend Martínez de la Rosa. In 1834, he signed up the Order of the 15th of July that permanently abolished the Inquisition.
He was the president of the Supreme Court until his death on 12 February 1850.
