Spanish grammarian, publisher, bookseller and politician. The son of a master velvet-maker, he was educated at the Colegio de las Escuelas Pías in Valencia and at the University of the same city. In 1805, he competed for a chair of Greek Language at the Royal Studies of San Ididro, although he was unsuccessful. He did obtain a post as substitute lecturer in the Chair of Greek at the University of Alcalá de Henares. After the Peninsular War started, he went back to Valencia and continued there his studies on Law. He married Josefa Mallén in 1809, and cofounded with her brother the Mallén Salvá enterprise, dedicated to the publishing business. Apart from these activities, he collaborated with the liberal journal la Aurora Patriótica Mallorquina. After Ferdinand VII's return, he had to face the enquiries of the Inquisition, which searched his bookshop. Between 1817 and 1818, he was not in Spain.

With the Trienio Liberal (Liberal Triennium), he started his career in politics, first as city councillor, and later as a substitute deputy and deputy in the Cortes. In 1823, after the victory of the French troops leaded by the Duke of Angulema, he found refuge in Gibraltar, from which he went to London in 1824. He opened there his Spanish and Classical Bookshop, which was a magnet for English bibliophiles and a meeting place for Spanish exiles in the British capital. In 1830, he left the business to one of his sons and he moved to Paris where he opened the Spanish-American Bookshop. With Ferdinand VII's death, Salván returned to Spain, although he did not live there permanently, as he moved constantly from Valencia to Madrid to Paris. He returned to politics a deputy in the Consitutional Cortes in 1836.
