History:

American writer, musicographer, patron of the and art collector. Born on 28 January 1888 in Cincinnati (United States).

Descendant of the general William Tecumseh Sherman by her mother's side, she was known in her familiar circle as Hoytie. Daughter of Frank Bestow Wiborg, she had two sisters, Sara Wiborg Murphy and Olga Wiborg Fish; and a nephew, Stuyvesant Fish. She lived in New York and in Paris, place where she was very known among the American colony. She helped the French country during the two world wars; in the First World War she worked as a nurse in a first line hospital, and received the French Medal of Honour; in the Second World War, she worked for the French Red Cross, and was named honorary corporal in the 213th Infantry regime, of which she was godmother. Moreover, she collaborated with the movement of the French resistance, and was distinguished with National Order of the Honour Legion. Between her contacts there were characters like Jean Cocteau, Mamie Eisenhower, George Gershwin, Mary Pickford or Eleanor Roosevelt. She had correspondence with Manuel de Falla between 1925 and 1939. She used the portrait of the composer drawn by Pablo Picasso in the article that she used in the magazine "Arts an Decorations" in 1925. In 1927, she travelled around Seville, Ronda, Algeciras and Granada, city where she visited Falla in April. Moreover, she told the composer the intention of Walter Damrosch of commissioning him a work, and she agreed the concert that Falla offered in the Aeolian Hall of London in 22 June of the same year. The concert was directed by Anthony Bernard, with the London Chamber Orchestra, and Vera Janacopulos, Hector Dufranne, Thomas Salignac and Falla himself attended. The programmed works were "Concerto per clavicembalo (o pianoforte), flauto, oboe, clarinet, violino e violoncello" (1923-1926); "El amor brujo" (1915); "Soneto a Córdoba de Luis de Góngora" (1927); and "El retablo de maese Pedro" (1919-1923). As an author, she wrote the play "Taboo" in 1922. She passed away on 27 March 1964 in Paris (France).
