Professor of Medieval History at the University of Barcelona, educated by Jaume Vicens Vives. She attended the baccalaureate the Liceo Francés and graduated in Philosophy and Arts with a specialisation in Medieval History at the University of Barcelona. She was a student of Vicens Vives, who was the supervisor of her thesis, after the death of her mentor, Emilio Sáez became the supervisor of her doctoral thesis. She obtained her PhD in 1970 and in 1972 she achieved the position of full professor at the department of the University of Barcelona where she worked until her retirement in 2001. She was a member of the Commission Internationale pour l'Histoire des Villes. In 2019 she was awarded an honorary doctorate distinction by the University Athenaeum Sant Pacià of Barcelona.
Her research fields were urban history, poverty, and the merchants of Barcelona. Her doctoral thesis was entitled "La crisis social y económica de Barcelona a mediados del siglo XV" (1970).
Entre 1958 y 1959 investigó sobre la Barcelona del siglo XV en el Archivo de la Corona de Aragón (A.C.A.) de Barcelona.
